The term refers to a syndrome consisting of a complex interaction of cerebrovascular disease and risk factors that lead to changes in the brain structures due to strokes and lesions, and resulting changes in cognition. The temporal relationship between a stroke and cognitive deficits is needed to make the diagnosis.

Track 1 Dementia

Dementia is a general term for a decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life. Memory loss is an example. Alzheimer's is the most common type of dementia.

Track 2 Causes and Prevention

Dementia is caused by damage to brain cells. This damage interferes with the ability of brain cells to communicate with each other. When brain cells cannot communicate normally, thinking, behavior and feelings can be affected.

Track 3 Vascular Dementia

Vascular dementia is defined as inadequate blood flow can damage and eventually kill cells anywhere in the body. In vascular dementia, changes in thinking skills sometimes occur suddenly following strokes that block major brain blood vessels. Vascular brain changes often coexist with changes linked to other types of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies. Vascular dementia symptoms may be most obvious when they happen soon after a major stroke includes confusion, disorientation, trouble speaking or understanding speech and vision loss.

Track 4 Ageing and Dementia

Almost 40 per cent of people over the age of 65 experience some form of memory loss. When there is no underlying medical condition causing this memory loss, it is known as "age-associated memory impairment," which is considered a part of the normal aging process.

Track 5 Advances in Dementia Test

A range of tests and diagnostic procedures is needed to diagnose dementia, but there are several that are fairly commonly used to diagnose dementia. These tests for dementia are mainly tests of mental abilities, blood tests and brain scans. Tests can help the doctor learn whether dementia is caused by a treatable condition. Even for those dementias that cannot be reversed, knowing the type of dementia a person has can help the doctor prescribe medicines or other treatments that may improve mood and behavior and help the family.

Track 6 Dementia Stages

Progressive dementia, which is dementia that gets worse with time, is the most common type. Five stages of progressive dementia have been outlined. They are part of the Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR), which professionals use to evaluate the progression of symptoms in patients with dementia. The five stages describe a patient’s ability to perform in six different areas of cognition and functioning: orientation, memory, judgment, home and hobbies, personal care, and community. The stages include early dementia, Moderate dementia, Advanced dementia, Test of dementia stages, Advances in research of dementia stages.

Track 7 Dementia Care Management

Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia can be a challenging journey, not only for the person diagnosed but also for their family members and loved ones. Caring for someone with Alzheimer's or dementia can seem overwhelming at times, but the more information and support you have, the better you can navigate the demanding road ahead and determine the long-term care options that are best suited to you and your loved one. There are some Alzheimer’s care preparations that are best done sooner rather than later. It may be hard to consider these questions at first, as it means thinking about a time when your loved one is already well down the road of his or her Alzheimer’s journey.

Track 8 Vascular Dementia Nursing

Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations.

Track 9 Advanced Drug for Dementia

The mainstay of management of vascular dementia is the prevention of new strokes. This includes administering antiplatelet drugs and controlling major vascular risk factors. Neuroprotective drugs such as nimodipine, propentofylline, and posatirelin are currently under study and may be useful for vascular dementia. Omentum in the treatment of vascular dementia. The sub tracks includes Cholinisterase inhibitors, Impact of treatment with N-Acetylcysteine, Oral redox polymer therapeutics, Snoezellen and Multi sensory stimulation, Effect of thioctic and enantiomers, Role of phospholipids, Effects of brain afobazole.

Track 10 Potential Future Interventions

National Plan to Address Alzheimer’s Disease, a national effort to expand research in Alzheimer’s and related dementias prevention and treatment and to move the most promising drugs from discovery into clinical trials.

The Plan aims to prevent and effectively treat Alzheimer’s and related dementias by 2025. Its foundation is the 2011 National Alzheimer’s Project Act (NAPA), which was developed to create and maintain a national strategy to overcome the disease.

Track 11 Neuro-entrepreneurship: Vascular Dementia

Brain is an intangible conundrum which buries millions and millions of memories.

Entrepreneurship is the process of designing a new business, i.e. a startup company offering a product, process or service.

We are convinced that these new approaches to entrepreneurship research will have high impact and will lead to some of the most exciting and best publications in the years to come.

Bringing these new approaches together in one track will provide a forum for some of the best scholars in the field to join Vascular Dementia Conference 2017 and it will provide the audience with a look into the future of entrepreneurship research.

Track 12 Animal Models and Translational Medicine

Animal models for Alzheimer’s disease it is important to think about the human phenotype and what is being modeled in terms of the animal phenotype. The moderator, Bradley Hyman, professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School, said that animal models of Alzheimer’s disease, based on the genetics of the disease and the closely related front temporal dementia, replicate at least some of the pathology. Researchers have been successful at modeling very specific aspects of Alzheimer’s disease in the mouse (e.g., plaques, tangles). Although these are incomplete models of the human disease, they have been well received in the field as potentially relevant models for use in drug discovery.

The incidence of the illness is 1.5% in Western countries and just about 2.2% in Japan. It accounts for 50% of all dementias in Japan, 20% to 40% in Europe and 15% in Latin America. The prevalence of dementia is 9 times higher in patients who have had a stroke than in controls. 25% of stroke patients develop new-onset dementia within 1 year of their stroke. The relative risk of incident dementia is 5.5% within 4 years of suffering a stroke.

The overall multi infarct dementia market is segmented into North America, Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and MEA. As of 2014, North America held largest market share in terms of revenue owing to the increasing incidences of multi infarct dementia coupled with increasing geriatric population base. European market displayed similar traits and followed North American multi infarct dementia market. Japan owing to increased geriatric base represents approximately more than 50% of the dementia cases in Asia Pacific. Vascular dementia, also known as multi-infarct dementia (MID) and vascular cognitive impairment (VCI), is dementia caused by problems in the supply of blood to the brain, typically by a series of minor strokes. Vascular dementia is the second-most-common form of dementia after Alzheimer's disease (AD) in older adults. Vascular dementia is thought to be irreversible and it is caused by a number of small strokes or sometimes a large stroke preceded or followed by other smaller strokes. The term refers to a group of syndromes caused by different mechanisms all resulting in vascular lesions in the brain. Early detection and accurate diagnosis are important, as vascular dementia is at least partially preventable.

Globally, results of a recent meta-analysis suggest that 44 million people lived with dementia worldwide in 2010, with numbers expected to almost double every 20 years, to 65.7 million in 2030 and 115.4 million in 2050. In 2010, 58 per cent of all people with dementia lived in countries with low or middle incomes, with this proportion anticipated to rise to 63 per cent in 2030 and 71 per cent in 2050.This number is expected to double by 2030 and more than triple by 2050 to 115 million.

In the United States alone, experts estimate that as many as five million people age 65 and older suffer from Alzheimer’s disease.

Dementia is widely considered the second most common cause of dementia after Alzheimer's disease, accounting for 10 per cent of cases. Many experts believe that vascular dementia remains underdiagnosed like Alzheimer's disease even though it's recognized as common.

Alzheimer's Research UK currently funds 150 research projects across the UK and has committed nearly £40million to dementia research.

Their research will focus on improving the quality of life of those already living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

The Alzheimer's Association funds independent investigators worldwide, they have awarded over $335 million to more than 2,250 projects.

Research conducted by the Alzheimer's Society, shows that there will be 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK by 2015. This will cost the UK £26 billion a year.

Two-thirds (£17.4 billion) of the cost of dementia is paid by people with dementia and their families, either in unpaid care (£11.6 billion) or in paying for private social care. This is in contrast to other conditions, such as heart disease and cancer, where the NHS provides care that is free at the point of use.
